The more things change, the more things stay the same — Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

It’s been a good year here at Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity. For the 15th time, we recently broke ground on a new house for another Wimberley family. It is truly amazing that this little village has been able to begin and then complete this wonderful endeavor, year after year, now for 15 years. The Cindy Thornburg family is our new partner family with whom we will work side-by-side to build their new home during the next several months. I can’t wait for you to meet them and to work with them.
However, along with that continuation of our tradition we also faced, for the first time in as long as anyone can remember, the fact that Jim McMeans would not be our construction manager. But thanks to Jim’s efforts, we had the good fortune to have Keith Campbell of Campbell Construction step up and agree to take the position of construction manager for this house (and hopefully future houses!). Jim will remain an integral part of bringing Keith up to speed and building houses but he will now be able to travel more and finally enjoy his thus far hectic “retirement” a little more.
We had some exciting changes on the WVHH Board of Directors. Judy Roberts, the matriarch of one of our partner families, has risen to the position of Secretary of the Board and a member of the Executive Committee. Jerry Moore has taken over for Mike Hargrave as Treasurer. We have added three at-large Board members: Lydia Brasher, Deb Phillips, and Rocky Boschert. These are the faces of the next generation of WVHH leaders.
Thanks to Dave Estey, our Site Selection Chair, we have obtained two new lots in the Woodcreek-Eagle Rock area. This will ensure that we will have good and affordable lots for our next houses, which is critical to the continuation of our mission.
Finally, I am happy to tell you that some amazing students at Dripping Springs High School have worked very hard to receive accreditation as a Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter and to affiliate with WVHH. This new campus chapter will partner with us to support the mission of WVHH and to introduce Habitat for Humanity to a new generation, who will work with us for years to come.
So, we are evolving and growing as we should. But things are also staying the same. We still have one mission: to extend our hand to hard-working Wimberley families and to help them build themselves a new home. We now have new faces to stand with the long serving heroes of WVHH to make sure this work continues into the future. However, we still need YOU to join us in work that will change not only the partner family’s life but yours as well. Step up and be a part of us. I promise that things for you will never be the same.
