by Volunteer Coordinator Lynn Williams (and thanks to Anna Fisher for the pictures)
Hello volunteers. Judy and family are busy getting settled in their new home. I estimated we had 45-50 people in attendance at yesterday’s dedication. As we gathered outside on the driveway and sidewalk, former Wimberley Valley Habitat President Jim McMeans welcomed family, friends, neighbor’s, volunteers and business partners. After a ribbon cutting by Judy and her children, Beau, Caitlyn, Abigail, Sarah, Dylan and grandson Asher, board member David Junkin offered the opening prayer. Deborah Davenport offered a visual picture of Judy’s journey as a Habitat partner explaining how each brick colored into the drawing represented one hour toward the 300 sweat equity hours a partner is required to put into their home. President Cookie Hagemeier introduced board members that were present and thanked our volunteers and business partners without whom this home would not have been possible. Board member Sharon Graves presented a Bible to the family. A huge cheer went up when Vice President Brent Pulley presented Judy with the keys to her new home. Janice Johnson from the Wimberley Valley Quilters presented Judy and her family with a beautiful handmade quilt. Judy then had heart felt words of thanks to everyone. Pastor Mark Bryant from First Baptist Church blessed the house and offered the closing prayer. It was then time to tour the house and have some cake and punch.
I’ll be in touch with you as we move forward on another partner home in the fall. Hope you all have a wonderful, safe summer.
