The Family Support Committee convened for its January meeting at the Lutheran Church with Chair Jennifer Fuhr, Building Partner Martha Dietz, Cookie Hagemeier, Barbara Barks, and Jim Spitzer in attendance. Pastor Jennifer opened the meeting with a prayer. We discussed building progress on Martha’s house and upcoming events on which Martha could contribute, and Jennifer gave Martha a handout on the budgeting process which homeowners should know in order to keep their expenses in order. At the upcoming February meeting committee member Deborah Davenport will discuss the issues involved in evaluating and buying homeowner’s insurance. The photo below shows Martha’s progress toward her sweat equity hours as of early January. Stepping stones which are colored in green show “friends” hours (which are completed), and the brown stepping stones show “family” hours.  Martha and her son Taylor have been making excellent progress. Barbara closed the meeting with a prayer. Martha's Journey as of 1/13/2009

_____________________________________________________________________________________________ The Family Support Committee met with our new homeowner, Martha Dietz, on November 10th.  In attendance were Family Support Chair Rev. Jennifer Fuhr, Martha, WVHH President Cookie Hagemeier, Barbara Barks, Deborah Davenport and Jim Spitzer.  After Pastor Jennifer opened the meeting with a prayer, Barbara updated us on Martha’s Sweat Equity journey (see above graphic), which shows an amazing start (thanks to Martha and family getting hours at the Village Store.)  We briefly discussed some issues from the first Family Support meeting, including some revisions to the Contract for New Home Construction (which were accepted by Martha and the WVHH Board), and Martha building a credit line with MFSC (WVHH’s mortgage service)–this is still an open issue and will be reviewed at the next WVHH Excecutive Committee meeting. The major part of the meeting involved Martha’s participation in the upcoming Big Build (November 14), how to record family and friends sweat equity hours, how to greet volunteers, etc.  Martha volunteered to attend the pre-build sessions (November 12 and 13), and the committee approved. Due to Martha’s excellent progress and December being a busy month, we decided to skip a December meeting and schedule the next meeting for January 12th, 2010, 6:30 at the Lutheran church.  Pastor Jennifer closed the meeting with a prayer.
