Become a Homeowner

"Becoming a Habitat homeowner carries a far deeper meaning than just having a new house.  Habitat home ownership transforms lives."

How to Become a Partner Family

Habitat homes are built with the love and support of the Wimberley community, are sold at cost, and financed by Habitat with a no interest loan. Habitat for Humanity is not a giveaway program, rather it offers a hand up to families who are qualified to become Habitat homeowners.

Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity application & Selection Process

Partner families are selected based on meeting three criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. In order to qualify for a Habitat home, you must be able to meet and document the qualifications set forth in the Prequalification Questionnaire. The Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity Family Selection Committee members dedicate their time and hearts to selecting the one family which it determines best qualifies for a Habitat house.

  • The family selection process takes approximately six months, beginning with the preparation of the application documents and preparing and posting publicity to seek out applicants.

  • If it is determined that an applicant may qualify for a home, Wimberley Valley Habitat for Humanity will guide them through the application process. At that time, we will ask applicants to provide additional information as well as documentation for all information given in the Preliminary Questionnaire.

  • The Committee meets several times to evaluate the applications for completeness and determine qualified applicants.

  • We will then schedule a home visit with the applicants to evaluate the current housing situation.

  • Following the home visits, the Committee meets to discuss the evaluations and narrow the selection until those most in-need are agreed upon.

  • The committee will then order the required credit reports for evaluation.

  • Lastly, the final selection is made and the applicants are notified accordingly by the Wimberley Valley Habitat Board of Directors.
